Title: Camper van for family of 5? in USA
Post by: jafostet05 on January 07, 2017, 01:08:34 AM
I am looking to build a camper van for my family, there are two adults and three children under 5 years old. I need seating for 3 carseats, and also want room for a small foldout sofa bed/ rock n roll bed. I have a roof top tent to mount on top that will sleep two people. I am thinking a Ford E150 or E 250. Suggestions on carseats or setup?

Thanks!

A camper van for a family your size sounds like a recipe for disaster or misery.

A class A or C motor home,  or a large family sized tent would be a better choice.  Your family all needs to live and sleep in the same space, and a van is just too small to accomplish that without killing each other.  A roof top tent is too much separation for either the kids or the adults.

Good thought, we are wanting something for weekend getaways (like a westy, but not the price). It might not be possible, but just wanted to see if others have done this. Thanks!

Hi,
Have thought of a step van, the box shape is better to work on.
You tube have lots on there.
Also take look @ this, www.quirkycampers.co.uk , for some ideas. ;)
Keeps us on the forum posted.

Cheap older RV's can be found, some in very good shape.  Many have very low miles and very little use, but have been brought  up to top notch to sell them.  A friend bought a beautiful 1976 Class C a couple of years ago for $1500 and has since put 20k+ trouble free miles on it.
