Buzzfeed article: https://www.buzzfeed.com/matthewtucker/meet-the-brits-turning-to-unconventional-housing-to-save-on

'People are living in "tiny houses", timber woodland structures, and canal boats – and one YouTuber has set up home in a converted ambulance.' Has a van in there, too, of course.

Van Conversion / Re: Thoughts on a shell- AWD or 4WD?
February 03, 2017, 10:18:39 PM
I'm in the United States and camp often on public lands (as well as crown land in Canada). My one regret about my van is that it's not 4WD (it's front wheel drive, and car height from ground). I find that I can get into the backcountry fairly well on most forest roads. Many in the North America are graded smooth, some even improved with gravel and drainage, to accommodate logging and mining trucks. But every now and then I am confronted with a steep hill; a rough, rocky patch; or mud, ice, or snow. I *usually* do OK, but a higher clearance and 4WD would have saved me from a few problems and undercarriage repairs. To summarize, a 4WD isn't essential, but every now and then it's very nice.

Listen to this podcast about a vandwelling couple in Europe. They talk a lot about how they transitioned to making money on the road. They're also clever about finding/creating opportunities. I like their approach, and I think their way of thinking could work whatever profession you're pursuing on the road.

Hi! I'm Vanholio (aka Vance Hollister), a full-time vandweller in the USA from Texas. Blogging at vanholio.com. Really excited about his forum because I'm interested in vanning around Eurasia one of these days.
