Try van hire to the feel of a Sprinter.
Also the SMMCC in UK, a VERY good site.

Hi Kieran,
The place to ask this question for a UK focus is the www.sbmcc.co.uk (Self Build Motor Caravaners Club)
You can make your self a temp member & ask questions.
There is a big 'active' membership with decades of experience.
The site is moderated so no one can give biased info!
I used this site 10yrs ago before my project started.
Its like the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Give it a try,

This is interesting video for the bed @ 2:40 in, for those who don't like sliding the bed each night.

My bed, 7 years old, is made from Ikea springy bed bed slats. Mattress 2 singles from a Dojo (judo gym/studio) made from organic materials. No told ever!
I use it single mode if I wish to get of on the road quickly in the morning & in double, when my over night spot allows a lay in.

Hi,
My experience of taking my self-build sprinter (which was already registered in the UK as a motorhome) I wished to register it in Germany (6years ago). I needed a certificate of conformity from a Marc dealership (approx €100) then a TUF German M.O.T. & off to the government department to register it as a German motorhome.
Now if wish to take back to U.K. & I need the certificate of conformity so the U.K.'s DVLA will let me register it back from where it came!
P.S.
I'll obtain a temporary insurance cover from a German insurance broker & @ the said German government department obtain export papers.
I'm not sure if any of this is applicable where Canada is concerned!
Good luck
