Van Conversion / Re: LDV Convoy Fuses
September 05, 2023, 03:13:50 PM
Quote from: rusty on July 04, 2019, 10:47:50 AMI have just purchased an LDV Convoy. The first few weeks have been spent treating all the rust and trying (unsuccessfully) to find out how the rain is getting in.

The van came with a workshop manual which has numerous detailed wiring diagrams but no picture of the fuse box (under a cover on the dash) and what each fuse does.

Does any have a diagram of a 2005 LDV convoy fuse layout?

There's no diagram but see this screenshot. It tells you what each fuse is for: https://imgur.com/undefined

On the Fuse housing you'll see the column and row labeled, for example 'A' and '2'

Hey, do you have any social pages or any profile on a fundraising platform?

wow, Alaska! hope you got to see some good aurora skies.

Yeah thanks Dan for letting me know of the forum issue. I've updated everything and fixed a couple of things and it's now all working great.

Hope you've had a good holiday  :)

Just an update. I've now moved servers and implemented some different security measures and IP blocking. Before the forum was just getting bombarded with bots but now it seems to have settled.

In the meantime, there are some spam members that still need to be weeded out. I will do that on-the-fly as they cause offence.

Thanks everyone for sticking around, especially you Camper_Dan. We'll get there. I can see this forum can be really helpful for so many people.

If anyone has suggestions for improvements, in terms of usability/design or whatever, let me know here or via PM

Cheers!!

These spam bots are crazy. The solution is tech/code rather than a human moderator. I'm currently in the process of changing to a better server and hopefully with that I'll be deploying Cloudflare with some cool security/anti spam features.

Sorry everyone for you having to face all this spam  :o

haha hello.

I've been fixing up my van and treating it good with a full service etc. Now about to head south for winter. First to N.Spain and maybe sardina and (finally, maybe) Italy.

Hello. You pretty much got it. Ground the battery. It's best not to ground the load side, just leave it as its own isoated circuit.

So now you just connect red and black (from load terminals on solar controller) to the the fusebox and then your appliances to the fusebox, distributed via fuses. The negative on the fusebox will just be a common rail, all connected together.

It's best to have separate circuits, each being fed by its own fuse (much like in a house). For example, in my van I have a lighting circuit, utility circuit (this includes fridge and water pump) etc.

Let me know if you understand or not and I'll help  :)

Yeah what they said ^. Just do a good job of installing it and be careful. I always have the side door open when I'm cooking anyway

yeah it's gonna get too hot pretty quickly though I think (I move North). I'm kind of starting to look at ways I can make money now though so I can have a good summer. We'll see ::)

Suddenly bumping into a lot of other vanners recently - after not seeing any for months and month! they're all hanging round the Peloponnese

I'm just popping in to say I do still exist :-)

It's great everyone is talking on here and taking ownership of this place.

So when you don't see much of me, It usually just means that I'm working on something. I'm at a critical point where I need to either follow through with some plans/opportunities (for trying to get money) or... I loose. Time is just flying

Hope everyones good. Hi to the new members!

Getting real warm now In the Peloponnese (sorry ::))

I have been working on the electrical and am modeling my system based off vandog's "12V electrical and wiring for my campervan conversion," except I will not be installing a mains hookup and am not even sure what battery monitoring is therefore have not included it.

I am wondering how to correctly use the 12V fuse box without having it connected to my MPPT controller?  I had planned to connect it directly to my leisure battery, is this possible?

Also, I have no idea what the terminals for the switches are doing in your system?

All a bit overwhelming so any help would be great. Thanks and killer site Vandog.

Hey. Battery monitoring is just a volt readout display to monitor battery condition and also a current readout to monitor instantaneous power usage (in Amps) - but yeah you don't really need it.

I'm not sure what you mean about not wanting to connect the fusebox to your solar controller though. If you are using a solar controller, the things you are powering will have to connect to it, which means the fusebox as well.

I think with stuff like this, it's really useful to know just the minimum about DC circuits since everyone has different requirements - then you can build it up bit by bit yourself however you want

My post isn't very clear though - it wasn't really done with the intention of it being reproduced. I'm working on another version

Sounds good. Are we talking about the refillable bottles with adaptors? I've had no problem in any country. From what I read on the internet though, I thought I'd have more of a problem in some places

Have a good one :)

Van Conversion / Re: Mike: Van build changes in hindsight

Hi Mike hope you can answer this. Been following your great blog for awhile now, mostly your van build articles. I think your van has got to be one of the best conversions I've seen on the net.

I wanted to ask, in hindsight, if there's anything you would of done differently with regards to your van? For instance would of you still of built the shower which I'm sure must take up quite some room in a small van and use up loads of water? How about the gas boiler, if you didn't install the shower do you think you could live without instant hot water?

Yeah good question. The shower and toilet is really not needed (I wasn't sure about it at the time). The instant heater is not essential but is very handy for filling a tub of hot water for washing in and washing clothes.

Nice thread!

I'm looking forward to going through this when I'm on Wifi. Yes for Ozric tentacles and Tinariwen - I discovered Tinariwen whilst travelling and ever since I've heard them everywhere. Really really good music.

OK so here is some of my favourite African stuff:

Ali Farka Touré - Allah Uya: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=339uFnhymM4

Amadou & Mariam - Coulibaly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kp9cmTNaMw

William Onyeabor - Something You'll Never Forget: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGjDxCGqC4U

Listening to William Onyeabor a lot at the moment. I've never heard anything like it!
