Hey man. Me and my partner are also doing europe next year with our two dogs. An AC unit simply uses too much power unless your constantly connected to a power outlet. To combat the issue of stopping the van overheating when dogs are inside we have just went way over the top with insulation. Im hoping this will do the job!

Hi Dan. We considered a windowed van but the climates we'll be traveling in will be chilly so to conserve as much heat as possible we need a limited number of windows, one to be precise. Any more then we're screwed on a cold winters day in the Lake District, it wouldn't be very comfortable.

Insulation wise we have 3 different kinds we're wrapping around the whole skin of the interior along with two extractor fans for ventilation.  In fact, we're nearly finished this stage. Ill update with a blog post at a later date.

Cheers mate!

Hey John. I have the same van more a less that I'm currently converting.

I wouldn't remove them, the structure of the roof sits of those supports. I've attached directly into the metal.

See below photo, still a WIP. I'll post a more up-to-date image soon.

I'll be releasing a post soon on https://onevantwodogs.com regarding frame work.

Hey Smithy. I'm right next to Northumberland. I'd recommend the biggest spaced van you can get your hands on. Every extra inch counts when you're spending a lot of time in your van. Be easier weight wise if you also stick to the 3500kg limit for a basic license, remember a lot of roads have weight limits, especially off the beaten track.

Hey all. We have just bought a van and are documenting the progress over here https://onevantwodogs.com We have a Ford Transit with 180k on the clock. Cracking deal, had a full years MOT.

Our plan. Have the van ready for the end of 2017, start traveling start of next year with our 2 dogs.

Great to finally find an active van conversion forum!

James.
