Hello mate, in the minibus the only heat I had was from the hob which was in front of a window that was open while cooking. As regards the LDV the wall that was insulated was done with 25mm celotex and held partially in place with expanding foam,so there was gaps as the foam was sporadic, like I said the only difference was that wall didn't get any mould, and yet again I had no heating other than the hob when I was cooking. Also as I said with my latest van when we had the hottest week it was a comfortable temperature in the van and i didn't have windows open as I haven't got any yet.Its still a work in progress but it'll be there soon.

Just to add something from my limited experience,my first van was a converted minibus with windows and was bloody freezing. My second van was an LDV the same as mikes,I built it quickly and as a builder I had a small amount of celotex insulation which I put on one wall only, after the winter there was mould on the walls and ceiling that didn't have insulation.
Onto the van I'm using now,a mwb high top transit with no windows,I've put bubble wrap everywhere and put tgv cladding every where,I filled the cavity between the bubble wrap and the cladding completely with rock wool.ive no windows at the moment but I'm planning to put a 450 skylight and possibly a small window behind the gas hob,I plan on getting a 12v fan .The heating I'm using is a webasto diesel heater.
Sooo what I've found is in the hottest week of the summer I was lucky enough to be staying in the van in Cornwall and I didn't lose a minutes sleep from being too hot which was lovely and must have been due to the insulation as I've struggled in the past when it's hot in my previous vans without insulation. This weekend which was the coldest by far at about -5 I had the webasto on for about an hour and that was enough for the night.
Hope this helps . Peace and plants

I've bought a roof light for my conversion but I'm leaning towards leaving it off and getting a couple of small windows

Van Conversion / Re: adding solar
June 09, 2016, 07:11:59 PM
I've got a question for the knowledgable out there,if I were to buy a 40w solar panel what could I feasibly run off of it ,baring in mind I only use my van for holidays etc? Could I run a cool box off it?

Fair play :-) busking is a good option ,learn the harmonica, last Christmas I learnt jingle bells in about 2 minutes, you'll earn a fortune.

I've been reading a lot of people advocating using a log burner, personally I'd love one but is there any reason if I get solar panels why I can't just get a small electric heater and run it off the solar panels?

Well at the moment there's a bit of SKA,bit of chilli peppers,Stevie wonder and as I'm seeing Henry Rollins in January I thought I'd dust off the old Black Flag which I havnt listened to since the 80's.forgot how good it was.

Mine was a pair of magnetic cheese knives, saw them ,loved them and bought them.Justified it by thinking to myself that one day I might have a cheese party in the van.never gonna happen, but they do look good :-)

Where does one buy magnetic cheese from?  :D :D
😊 very good. And I can't believe I just googled magnetic cheese to try and come up with a smart arse answer.

My experiences with police have been varied,I spent October to May staying in my van Friday,Saturday and Sunday every week as I could only get lodgings 4 days a week.the majority of the police knocks were fine just asking me why I was in my van and did I know my exact location in case I had any trouble. The only bad experience was in a car park in Windsor where I believe the lady was castle police and she kept getting me out of the van in the cold on a Sunday morning.Horrible woman, but if you don't go along they can always find a reason to take things further or find a fault with your van.
But thanks for the info, along with the other stuff you've written, very informative :-)
