Hello all
For those of you in passenger or window vans with minimum conversion.
How do you anchor the furniture/cabinets? Is the paneling strong enough to take an anchor bolt? Would a drywall type of anchor work?

Thanks

Greetings!

Mine are anchored to the floor using the original seat mounting bolt holes with a firring strip running the full length front to back, then anchored to that.

In the top side, I use L shaped flashing, that is tucked in behind the window moldings.

When I had a high top, the upper cabinets were supported by poles from the lower cabinets, a similar flashing tucked under the top window frame, and then for added stability I mounted a tension luggage bar going between them, one in the front, and one in the back.  These could also be used as curtain rods, or for hanging clothes.  I didn't want any weight hanging from my fiberglass high top.

In one build, I didn't have seat mounting points, but I used the same scheme, but the firring strip was not secured to the floor.  I used a firring strip both front and back on that one, and just the fact that everything was connected, kept them nicely secured.  They couldn't tip because they were secured under the window frames, and front to back everything was secured together via the firring strips.

Hope this helps...

Dan.
Thanks again. I had thought to use the existing bolt holes but was flummoxed as to how. I'm not sure what a fitting strip is but I'll google it and if I can make what I have work. I starting out with some furniture that I already own while I figure out what I need. What I have may not be talk enough for the L brackets but I'll see what I can make happen. Just needed ideas.

Greetings!

Looks like I spelled it wrong, it's FURRING strips.  Basically it's like a 1x2 or 1x3 board, used to anchor stuff to.  They come 8 foot to possibly 12 foot in length.  Any place like Home Depot, Lowes, or lumber supply store has them.

If you need to achor stuff to the floor, both front and back, I would use plywood going from  the aisle, clear to the wall instead of furring strips, that way you have something to anchor to clear to the wall, and you can just use self tapping screws, and regular L brackets, being careful not to go clear through the plywood and into the floor itself.

If I'm needing wall anchors, I do this:

Then I can mount D brackets or L brackets to either the floor, or the wall back board.  With this scheme, I can secure almost anything without doing any permanent damage to the original van's interior.  The back board can be as tall as needed.  Bungie cords and/or rope are great for securing hard to secure stuff.

I'm  not much of an artist, but hopefully this will help.  Holler if you need clarification on anything.

Cheers!
