I am eyeballing a van that's already been well converted, but I have an 8 year old kiddo, & the conversion does not include a formal rear seat. It has a long bench box sofa extending from behind the driver's seat to the back door. The seller has insulated & floored, but I imagine I will need to bolt the bench & belt harness somehow. ??? Does anyone have experience with this issue?

Thanks so much!

Hi, I think you need to check the regulations of where you live.

I am in New Zealand, and bought seats to put in the back of our van which is certified at 3 seats currently. I have read that because I am putting OEM parts in from another exact model I do not have to have it assessed. Otherwise I would have to take it so they could check mounting points etc at around $1000.

It has taken me a while to find the right seat as there are so many variations in the Toyota Hiace.

Hi there,

I was looking into the seatbelt issue as well, to get round it we are keeping two seats that have seatbelts incorporated, but I guess that won't work in your case as it's already fitted out.

Also incase you weren't aware side lap belts won't pass muster. It has to be 3 point forward or rear facing seats to comply with the law. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/436202/carriage-of-passengers-in-campervans.pdf

Are you based in the UK... Anywhere near London? You could try contacting these seatbelt specialists, they have a mobile fitting service.

Hope that helps!
