Hi! My husband and I are working on converting our small truck to a camper. We want to add an rv air conditioner on top. We want to utilize ship to shore capabilities and will hook up to shore power when available. However, if we are off grid, we want to make sure we can at least run the AC fan for air circulation. Is it possible to run the fan off 12v? Also does anyone have a good AC suggestion in the $550 price range? Thanks in advance!!

Greetings & Welcome!

I'd go with a 12 volt swamp cooler instead of a typical air conditioner.  That's what I use, and it has never failed me, and it uses very little power.  It does require water though.  Mine is home made, and cost under $50 to make, and it's super simple.  The trick with swamp coolers is that you use them with ventilation, pulling in outside air on one end, and then windows open on the opposite end to expel the hotter air.

You can get roof mount 12 volt swamp coolers too, but they're expensive.  Swamp coolers have been the preferred choice for boondockers for over 50 years.

Cheers!
