I am looking for something to use as sound dampening for a conversion van that I just pulled out the nasty floor carpet.
Ideally, it would be something that would work between the wood subfloor and the top flooring? The top flooring will be some fake wood floor that you might put down in the kitchen

Van interiors are a much more complex problem than most people realize. Condensation is going to form on all of the metal inside the van body, the floor, the walls, and the ceiling. This can't be stopped or prevented, so the only option left is how we're going to deal with it. Vans with factory finished interiors deal with it by wicking the moisture to the interior where it can then be evaporated out. On the floors, they will have a thick a felt or wool pad topped by carpet. This will wick the moisture away from the metal floor.
If you look at rigs that have solid rubber flooring, or some wood type flooring, the underlying metal floor will be rusting and rotting away and moldy. The solution for this is to elevate any flooring that isn't going to wick the moisture away, so that there is active airflow between the metal and the floor above, so the moisture won't get trapped.
