Trying to resolve the conversion bed / seating conundrum!

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and looking for some guidance that may benefit the wider camper van convertor community....

Firstly, can I just say that this is not a shameless plug for our business, but rather a genuine request for information that might help us solve an ongoing problem (it seems) within the conversion world.

I receive (via telephone and website) anywhere between 10-15 contacts per week from very nice people part way through a conversion project who have come unstuck to a degree when sourcing a bed, or beds. It seems that there is no "standard" bed that can be incorporated into most of the conversions out there at a reasonable price. Whilst I wholeheartedly appreciate that a camper conversion is a labour of love, a build of passion and an expression of the individuals personal design needs, I also understand that there are certain limitations when it comes to the design and fabrication of key components, such as beds for instance.

Getting to the point.....we manufacture over 16,000 tourer and static caravan beds every year, and on top of that we also make around 12,000 contract beds for soldiers and students, so we have pedigree. Perhaps more importantly we have the facilities to make a range of standardised beds for camper conversions with a "5 size fits all" principle behind the design. We unfortunately have to turn down the 10-15 enquirers each week as to make a bespoke design for every customer means we have to charge (in our own view) far too much for the beds. We have however on occasion done a favour for a handful of people who have reached a mission critical point and need urgent help, the result of which has been a set of beds which pull-out, lift up and fit the dimensions perfectly for an eye watering £350.00 each.

What we want to establish is the answer to this question...."is there any merit in designing a small range of camper conversion beds that can be manufactured by us, and distributed through a network of camper conversion specialist shops at a very reasonable price (or purchased directly) that will provide a solution to say 50%-60% of converters"?

If the answer is yes, then we need to work with somebody in the know on sizes, materials, dimensions, functionality etc in order to create the said range. We will then have a solution for those that call us regularly and will ultimately make a conversion simpler and more cost effective. We pledge to make the beds affordable, lightweight, strong and aesthetically correct as well as readily available in stock. If the answer however is no, I will slope away into the shadows and never darken this forum door again!

As I said, I am not trying to plug our business and gain trade, but I am trying to find a solution to what seems to be an ongoing and reasonable common challenge..

Many thanks

Shaun
