Van Conversion / Re: New LDV Convoy Owner

Without any ply lining above your head, just carpet you'll probably be just about OK. 'Just about' being the operative word Chip.

If this worries you, just find the nearest LDV hightop van for sale or go to your local commercial breakers and measure/find out what the height is like inside for yourself. Only that will give you as clear an indication as any if the headroom fits your requirements.

If it's not enough, just whack in an old fashioned caravan roof vent, the bigger the better for where you envisage you'll be doing most of your standing up in the back. That'll be the easiest solution.

Hello Justin

I'm a fairly well known marketing guy and a professional copywriter. Chances are I might be able to help you - with some advice at least.

https://uk.linkedin.com/pub/mark-andrews/16/77a/a14

Now I'm going to write professionally and I don't mince my words in this regard, this will be blunt and straight to the point. Take it or leave it.

I just looked at your linked to page where you outlined your plan. It's screaming desperation believe it or not. Plus I'm failing to see what the perceived benefit is for the target market you're trying to reach and connect with. At the moment I think your plan is flawed. Fatally so. It's a no-goer. For many reasons which I don't believe you can see whilst you have your blinders on. Understandable. I've seen it often. It's a common mistake for new business owners.

Talk to me about your passions, your hobbies, what really turns you on (besides sex). What makes you get really bloody excited? In which area/s do you have a great deal of passion and excitement to bring to the table? What do you really love to share with others conversationally?

There is no disputing the fact that you're a good writer but the organization of your words as they connect to other people's emotions needs some brushing up on, lest you want your words and their emotions to become even more disjointed than they are at present.

Here is a good website for you to have a look at run by a contact of mine on your side of the pond: http://speakyourbusiness.com (Ann Convery).

At the end of the day, we need to focus in like a laser on your single biggest benefit. Once we determine what this is we can perhaps make some progress.

You can either do this here, or pm me or email me, my email address is on the link provided above.

Get back to me as soon as you can and I'll help you find your direction.

All the best,

Mark

P.S. Some of the praise/recommendations I've received in the past so you can rest assured you're in safe hands (all of these can be verified on LinkedIn):

How many of you are there? Do you have a preference for any kind of van? Tell us a bit more about your intended travel route too and we might be able to help you. Last but not least, what is your budget?

Welcome to the forum btw.

LDV went way downhill the second they introduced the Maxus vans in my honest opinion. Just stick with an LDV Convoy. Or a Mercedes Sprinter. Or the old Mercedes 310D or any of the other similar derivatives. The Iveco Daily vans are also a good bet. Ford Transit Jumbo vans aren't too bad either.

Bloody dead easy Patrick if my time living in the Pacific north west was anything to go by. It's a stunning country too. Loads of campgrounds dotted around all over the place. It's a stealth campers dream come true in that country. It's just so enormous. The amount of space they've got over there compared to over here is truly staggering.

If I could move there I would at the drop of a hat. People are a bit weird admittedly but then we're as barmy as they come over here.

Put the van through the MOT with the old seats in then as soon as it's passed switch them out. Come MOT time again do another swap and then another switch out straight after it's passed. Simple.

The T&G cladding you can buy in packs of 10 (10' long x 4" wide x 1/4" thickness) at B&Q for about give or take £8 max a pack. Then apply a wood stain to the surface and if you want to just apply a coat of yacht varnish. Tickety boo.

Crikey! http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/ lol. Every British inventor's / tinkerers wet dream on wheels, the shed at the bottom of the garden turned into a mobile home on wheels.  ;D

Hello KJR

We've got a few things in common. Landscape photography. MOT this week, mine is on Wednesday afternoon. Last but not least our height although I'm a smidgen above you at 6' 6" tall.

It's good to see you here. Don't worry about the sloppy steering on your van only that's completely normal. I know you didn't mention it but I just thought I would in case you thought it was a problem with your van - it's not. They're all the same, just one of the quirks of the LDV Convoy van. On the whole though they're good vehicles once you get used to them.

Welcome to the forum. Keep us updated please on how your conversion goes.

Chin chin,

Hello DJFArmer

What about an old school bus? I know you can pick those up pretty cheap over there. Or how about an old U-Haul truck?

Panner? Gold? Hello and welcome, good to see you here.

So where are you based Stateside? And where do you plan on traveling to? Also, what van or truck do you own / live in?

Cheers,

Mark

Just be strict with yourself what you pack on board. It's too easy to go overboard when starting out, oh this might come in useful and yes I must take that, and that, and that, oh and I mustn't forget this. It all adds up on the weight which will of course affect your fuel economy.

Yes. They're fairly roomy inside. All told from the dashboard to the back of the van it's about 14' long by 6' wide by 6' high inside.

The van itself is small enough (for me anyway) to get down the narrowest of Cornish lanes.

Parking is fairly easy in them and the fuel economy on average is pretty good for a 3.5t van.

The bog standard Ford Transit 2.5TD LDV Convoy van for example on a long run if you stick to just above 50mph will return up to 48mpg and parts are typically fairly easy to source (and cheap).

Good scenery, beautiful countryside, peace and quiet. Beaches, clifftops, surf whatever takes my fancy Kay.

I tend to spend a fair bit of my time down on The Lizard or down in the far west of Cornwall. My other favourite locations are Bodmin Moor, Exmoor and Dartmoor.

The LEDS can be powered by a 2nd battery in the engine bay, this can also charge up your electronics. A flick of a switch on your dashboard can alternate between both 12V batteries leaving your main battery just for starting the engine (so you don't drain it).

For the mini am and turntables buy a silent petrol/gas generator.

For other things in the van, such as your laptop you can put as many large high wattage solar panels on the roof connected to a solar charge controller, connected by pos/neg wires to your on board 12V batteries to which you attach a pure sine wave inverter.

Simple.

I write for a living, here I just let 'my hair' down Kay. Chill out and relax. Rather than writing professionally for a change.

Aye the forum has got nothing to do with Patrick or myself, we're just posters like you enjoying a bit of banter. It would be good though to see some more interaction between other kindly souls then I can ease off a bit lol.

Top of the day to you lass.
