Greetings!

There are several ways that people accomplish this.

A) You work a regular job, but just live in a van.

B) You have a regular job that involves travel, and live in a van. (Me)

C) You work online, and live in a van.

D) You find temp work wherever you can.

E) You have enough savings to get you through to your next job.

It really doesn't matter whether you live in a van or not, just plain living requires a reliable income if you intend to enjoy life at all.

My best advice is to work your butt off, as long and hard as possible while you're young and healthy, and save every dime possible.  The more money you have behind you, the more of life you can actually enjoy.  You don't need an expensive or elaborate rig to be comfortable, but everything else requires money on a regular basis.
