Hey all, im new to this site, as well as the vanlife. been living in and converting a van for about 6 months now, and came up with an idea that i wanted to run past some vets for opinions/experiences... DIY double paned glass. using double sided magnetic tape and an acrylic panel of optical quality (which are not that expensive from home depot) for basically insulating windows in the van and some noise deadening. i value any and all opinions, so post up! i wanna hear what you think, cuz im thinking about doing this in my build...

Greetings and Welcome!

Insulation doesn't work in campers because the necessary ventilation defeats it.  For heating and cooling the only way to beat the needed ventilation is by having enough heating or cooling power to overcome it.

Now if your windows aren't sealing good, and you're getting drafts where you don't want them, then I'd say yes.

I guess I'd give a solid maybe for sound deadening.

I certainly do appreciate your efforts to not block your view.  I basically never block my windows.  As mostly a city dweller, having a good view in all directions and at all times is paramount for safety reasons.  With plenty of dry  heating and cooling power combined with plenty of ventilation, I have successfully defeated moisture problems, that I have fought in the past.  Beating both the weather and moisture problems are as simple as using the right formula, which runs contrary to most popular beliefs.

Cheers!
