In this post we’ll explore the best options for staying connected to the internet whilst travelling Morocco in your van.
These days I’d normally recommend getting an eSIM, but Morocco doesn’t have any good eSIM options… yet. So the best option still is to get a local sim. But which one and where from?
Data sim Morocco: the best SIM options:
There are just two sim options worth bothering with in Morocco…
- INWI. The cheapest option. It works well most of the time but during peak hours you may notice it slowing down. Also the signal is not as strong in rural areas – in the mountains and desert. has an unlimited data plan at a very good price: 250 initially (first month), 125 for the remaining months. So that’s less than 50Euro for three months of unlimited data.
- MorocTelecom. The more expensive option. A similar cost/GB to Europe – 30gb for 200MAD (~ 20Euro). The service is much better and data download/upload speed is faster and more reliable.
Where to buy your sim?
To get the INWI unlimited deal (above) you must go to an official INWI ‘agency’. They’re all over the place if you just search on Google maps.
For MorocTelecom you can pretty much can a ‘loaded’ sim from anywhere – i.e pre-loaded with a certain amount of data. Sometimes people in the street will sell pre-loaded sims for a decent price (see pic below). Alternatively, go to a MorocTelecom store – more expensive than street sellers.

What sim do I recommend?
On my recent Morocco visit I got both INWI and MorocTelecom SIM cards to see the difference myself.
For most people INWI will be fine. The network has improved over the last few years, and a huge amount since my last visit in 2016. For example, the signal is much better in the mountains and around the desert than it once was. However, it’s still not as reliable as MorocTelecom.
If you need totally reliable internet all the time (zoom calls etc.) then go with MorocTelecom. For everything else INWI will be fine.
You can of course get both SIMs, using the unlimited INWI for your main sim and the MorocTelecom sim as a backup for situations where INWI fails.
