Southern Portugal is still one of the best places to be during winter in your van.
In this post we’ll explore a nice bit of Portugal coastline in the Algarve. I’ll also share a couple of good spots to stay in your van…
Before this: Looking at land for sale in Portugal – by campervan
Through the mountains
To the coast
The Algarve
Known for these rock formations
And the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
A 6km route along some of Portugal’s best coastline
Many private beaches only accessible by boat
The light is bright
The beaches are best
Even in winter
I went out for sunset shots
And got a fullmoonrise
Here’s a camping spot for visiting Marinha Beach

But it’s best to go inland to camp in your van
You’ll find many peaceful spots amongst nature
Or take a dirt road into the hills
There’s lots of space amongst nature
I’m glad to see Portugal is STILL great for being in a van. Over the years I hear people say Portugal is getting more and more difficult for vanlife. That’s probably true where you have dozens of vans staying in the same carpark for weeks, completely preventing the locals from using it. That’s always going to cause problems. Good thing is there’s so much accessible space in this country, as long as you don’t go where everyone else does.
After this: A van adventure to El Rocio – Spain’s wild west town
