I was driving west just north of the Picos De Europa Mountains in Northern Spain (Asturian region) and headed to some lakes that I thought looked interesting on the map. I found out when I got there that these are the Covadonga lakes – two stunning glacial lakes sitting at an altitude of 1134m in the mountains.

The Covadonga lakes are here

This place is… I’ll just show you the photos:

There are several different tracks… but go where you want

There are horses

And down the road…

is lake Enol

With… more horses

I like the jagged rough rockyness and the low bright winter light

It’s really good to be back out in the open again. Two days before this I was lying under the van in the wet and cold (see the video), and now… it’s like I’ve been dropped into a different world. Was I really having a bad time with the van last week?

Next time I’m here I’ll walk along the Cares Gorge. I guess I have to save some things 🙂
